In DynRisk objects are selected in one of two different selection modes: 窶廡irst selection窶 and 窶彜econd selection窶. Objects selected using 窶廡irst selection窶 are hilited, while objects selected using 窶彜econd selection窶 are outlined.
Current selection mode is set by choosing 窶廡irst selection窶 or 窶彜econd selection窶 from the 窶弩indows窶 menu or clicking the corresponding buttons in the toolbar. The menu item reflecting the current selection mode is check marked, and the corresponding toolbar button is hilited. You may also alternate between the selection modes by pressing the Tab key.
Having selected a set of objects, you can choose some command acting on these objects. For most commands the selection mode is irrelevant. The action resulting from such commands applies to the objects selected in the current selection mode and does not depend on which selection mode this is. Examples of such commands are 窶廛uplicate窶, 窶廴ove窶 and others. Hence, if you e.g., choose 窶廛uplicate窶 while being in the 窶彜econd selection窶 mode, all outlined objects will be duplicated. Doing the same while in the 窶廡irst selection窶 mode duplicates all hilited objects.
For other commands such as 窶廚onnect nodes窶, 窶廛istribute窶, and 窶彜catter plot窶 the selection modes are of specific relevance. If e.g., Node A is selected in first selection mode (i.e., hilited), Node B is selected in second selection mode (i.e., outlined), and the current selection mode is 窶彜econd selection窶, then the 窶廚onnect nodes窶 command will create an edge from Node A to Node B. If, on the other hand current selection mode is 窶廡irst selection窶, then the same command will create an edge from Node B to Node A.
The 窶廡irst selection窶 and 窶彜econd selection窶 buttons are present in all toolbars except the 窶廩elp toolbar窶 and the 窶廸o document toolbar窶.
